If you are thinking of hiking in Havasupai this year, you’ll need to know about the important new requirement to make a reservation.

What You Need To Know About Getting A Reservation To Hike Havasupai (Supai, Arizona)

Hiking Havasupai is one of the “ultimate hikes” in the United States, and in recent years, that word has gotten out.  Chances are you’ve probably seen it on Instagram or in an article or a magazine.

You may know this is a very popular trail, actually, more like a super-popular trail.

What you may not know is permits to hike and camp in Havasupai are extremely hard to get, often selling out for the entire year – instantly – on the day they go on sale.

The Official Notice From The Havasupai Tribe

The bottom line is you’ll now have to create an account at www.havasupaireservations.com before February 1, 2019, to ensure you have a shot at getting permit.

Once completed, you’ll need to be  on the website come 8:00 am (Arizona time) on February 1, 2019. I highly recommend you have your dates in mind for “Plan A”, “Plan B”, and “Plan C”, so you’re not fumbling with a calendar when time is of the essence in getting a permit.

Final Thoughts: What You Need To Know About Getting A Reservation To Hike Havasupai (Supai, Arizona)

I was lucky enough to complete this hike last year, and the trail completely lived up to all the hype. I absolutely loved this experience and would love do it again one day.

With that said, it was no joke. Be prepared for a tough 10-mile hike (each way) in through the Arizona desert in the blazing sun. The campground gets “slam-packed” daily as it is “first-com-first-served”, so the earlier you get there, the better chance you have at getting a good spot.

For the hike out, a lot of people start at 2 or 3 am (myself included) to reach the parking lot before 10:00 am (so as to not get stuck on the “switchbacks” during the hottest part of the day). Even so, the hardest part of this hike is just getting the permit. Make sure to create your account ahead of time and good luck!

Cheers!
