About The Temescal Canyon Loop Trail

The Temescal Canyon Loop Trail, located near Pacific Palisades in California, is very  popular hiking destination in Los Angeles. This 3.0-mile loop trail is moderately challenging and typically takes around 2 hours to complete. The trail ascends 833 feet, offering hikers views of both the Pacific ocean and Temescal Canyon. On clear days, the vista extends from the San Gabriel Mountains to Downtown Los Angeles and even to Catalina Island.

The trail is known for its waterfall, wildflowers, and unique rock formations, including the notable Skull Rock. While parts of the canyon are wooded and provide shade, some sections of the trail are exposed. Dogs are only permitted at the bottom of the canyon – in Temescal Gateway Park – and not on the trail. Parking is available at the trailhead for a fee, but free parking can be found on Sunset Blvd. or Temescal Canyon Rd, both of which are a short walk from the park. As this trail is frequently used for hiking, running, and walking, visitors can expect to encounter many others during this hike.

We think it’s a great hike because it gives you a little sample of everything the Santa Monica Mountains have to offer.
