Lately, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with American Express (see my recent posts on the Platinum Card by American Express for Ameriprise Financial and the American Express Everyday Preferred Card).

I wanted to see if I could keep the momentum rolling with my Hilton Honors Aspire card and its $450 annual fee.

Call Results: My Retention Offer For The Hilton Honors Aspire Card From American Express (2020)

Before making any “keep or cancel” decision, I’ve found it wise to always call the card company to see if any retention offers are available.

I called the American Express Retention Line at 1-800-452-3945. I quickly got a representative, told her I was trying to determine if I should keep the card.

She read me the laundry list of card benefits, at which point I told her I was unhappy with a recent issue I had with the upgrade offer (I’ll get to that in another post).

She quickly came back and said, “sir, I do see one offer, and this is strange because Amex and Hilton are not usually known for giving retention offers on this card”.

She then read me the following:

Offer #1:  20,000 Hilton Honors points after spending $3,000 within 90 days.

To Keep Or Cancel?

I actually find great value in this card as its benefits are among the very best any card has to offer.

In fact, the benefits alone completely outweigh the hefty $450 annual fee by a long shot!

Did I Accept The Retention Offer?

Abso-freakin’-lutely I did!

Basically, I effectively get 3 months of 6.67x bonus Hilton points [minimum] on all unbonused spending up to $3,000.

By my math, I value Offer #1 [conservatively] at $80, so this offer is just a bit of icing on the cake.

The Bottom-Line: My Retention Offer For The Hilton Honors Aspire Card From American Express (2020)

As you can see, retention offers can be more than worth a call if you are the fence about keeping or canceling your card.

In this case, I got an extra $80 for an amazing card that I was going to keep anyways

Cheers!
