The Benefits Of The Fine Hotels & Resorts Program

American Express’s FHR program is an under-utilized benefit for many Platinum users, but it provides tremendous value when used at the right hotels at the right time.

The standard perks of the FHR program include the following 6 benefits:

The Benefits Vary By Property

The “unique amenity” at The Waldorf Astoria Park City was a $100 property credit.

Additionally, the “daily breakfast for two people” benefit ($30 per person) was for use at the Powder restaurant.

Booking/Redemption

Location

The Waldorf Astoria Park City, originally known as the Dakota Mountain Lodge, is a stunning resort nestled in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains. Its location at the base of Canyons Village offers easy access to over 7,300 acres of skiable terrain.

Parking

Parking was straightforward with valet service available for $40 per vehicle per night. Self-parking was not an option, but the valet service was efficient and convenient.

FHOP Tip: Nope, there is nowhere to self-park.Use the valet.

Lobby

The beautiful lobby of the hotel was truly epic. With a vaulted ceiling, a massive 300-year-old imported fireplace, and comfortable conversation areas, it exuded both sophisticated luxury and cozy comfort.

Front Desk & Check-In

Check-in was professional and courteous. Upon arrival, we were delighted to receive a massive room upgrade to a luxurious 1 Bedroom Suite.

However, I was informed of a new policy: Hilton Honors Diamond benefits were no longer compatible [stackable] with Amex FHR benefits.

Loyalty Program Benefits

If we didn’t use FHR, we would have taken advantage of these (lesser, but still significant) Hilton Honors benefits.

Welcome Package

At check-in, we were handed the following folder/welcome package.

1 Bedroom Suite Entrance

The 1 Bedroom Suite was perhaps one of the best room upgrades I had ever received.

The suite was spacious, beautifully appointed, and equipped with a full kitchen, large dining table, two bathrooms, two gas fireplaces, a washer and dryer, and luxury brand products that added a cozy touch to the mountain setting.

The Aesop brand of toiletry products in our suite was a delightful surprise. Known for their high-quality ingredients and refreshing scents, these products added a touch of luxury to our stay. These are amount my favorite toiletry products.

Dinner At Powder

The Powder restaurant served upscale, elevated comfort food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Due to the resorts realitive isolation, we opted to eat at Powder for both Dinner and Breakfast.

Because we were at Powder during the off-season, we were able to make fast friends with the Chef and dining staff – all of whom provided some of the very best service we’ve ever received.

We enjoyed a complimentary breakfast for two at Powder. The breakfast options were diverse and delicious, ranging from fresh seasonal fruit and steel-cut oatmeal to a variety of eggs and pastries.

What’s Nearby

There was no shortage of activities to do near the hotel in the Park City Area – even in the summer. From exploring the Victorian downtown area of Park City to fly-fishing, biking, and horseback riding, we had a wide-variety of options to choose from. Rental bikes were also available.

The Bottom-Line Review: Fine Hotels And Resorts (FHR) – The Waldorf Astoria Park City

Our stay at the Waldorf Astoria Park City, courtesy of the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts program, was nothing short of spectacular. The program offered us six exclusive benefits that significantly enhanced our experience, especially the room upgrade to a 1 Bedroom Suite and the $100 credit which we used at the excellent Powder restaurant. The combination of the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts program benefits, the resort’s luxurious amenities, the excellent service, the beauty of the property and the wonderful location made for a truly memorable experience. This resort is a testament to the quality and luxury that the Waldorf Astoria brand represents – and the FHR Program is easily the best way to take full advantage of the best the resort has to offer. We look forward to our next FHR visit.
