American Express Platinum Changes [Back] The Uber Cash Benefit

It looks like American Express has done a bit of an about-face by backtracking on their confusing changes to the $200 Uber credit on the American Express Platinum and Centurion cards.

American Express Platinum Changes [Back] The Uber Cash Benefit

Once upon a time, the personal Platinum and Centurion cards had a $200 annual Uber benefit that came in monthly $15 increments with a $35 dollar credit in December. The Uber credit was automatically used when you enrolled your card in the benefit and then used an Uber.

It was easy.

Somewhere along the way, Amex and Uber decided to make things more confusing and harder to use by removing the automatic credit and instead requiring additional steps to manually add this credit to Uber cash every month.

Well, Amex has decided it is going back to the original [automatic and easy] way of doing things.

How To Use The $200 Uber Credit Now:

The good news is you don’t have to do anything different, just use the most recent version of the Uber app and list your Platinum or Centurion card as an eligible method of payment.

The rest is automatic, and you don’t even have to use your Amex card to get the credit, you just need to have it listed as an eligible payment method. This means you can use a card like the Chase Sapphire Reserve that earns 3x on travel and still get your $15 monthly credit.

The Bottom-Line: American Express Platinum Changes [Back] The Uber Cash Benefit

It was annoying when American Express initially made the ridiculous “jump through extra hoops” change, so I’m glad that they restored it to the easy and automatic way of using this credit.

Don’t forget, you don’t even have to use the Uber ride-share service to get the $15 credit. For more on this, see my post below.

Cheers!
