So, I did what I always do – I made the annual retention inquiry call to American Express.

So how did it go?

Well, when I called into American Express I got an automated notification of a wait time of 17 minutes, so I decided to try something new and use the American Express Chat feature.

I quickly got a representative, told him I was trying to determine if I should keep the card. I explained I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pay $550 to keep the card – especially when I found little travel use for it during the pandemic.

He came back and offered to walk me through the features of the card, to which I declined stating I was familiar with the card and its features. He then asked if I knew about the temporary entertainment and streaming credits on the card, to which I replied “yes” and I knew they were expiring soon (next month).

He then came back and said, “I can offer you a one-time  credit of 50,000 Membership Rewards Points if you decide to keep the card”.

To which I replied, “yes, I’d very much appreciate that”.
