If you have Thank You points you need to redeem, are taking a flight on American Airlines and would like to use the lounge, or have rounds of golf left to be played…it is best you do it this week before July 23,2017.

The Official Word From Citi

The Official Updates To The Prestige Card

There is no way to sugarcoat this – – these benefit expirations are a huge negative for card holders.

It does seem like a curious move by a card that was so visionary and valuable a mere two years ago – before the arrival of the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the “New Enhanced” American Express Platinum cards (among others).

These updates do almost nothing to make the Prestige competitive with the enhancements of those cards. In fact, the point-earning structure doesn’t even include as wide a category as Citi’s own Premier card which which earns 2x on all travel including gas! It’s a very curious move by Citi indeed.

The new updates themselves are not that impressive per se, metal cards are not a novelty anymore (many cards have had this feature for years) and don’t seem to provide any new real value. The “points for cash” update is OK, but doesn’t come close to the redemption value you could get for redeeming on flights even at the new “25% greater value” level.

Perhaps most alarmingly, the new “4th night benefit” update may even not be eligible to earn points for hotel loyalty programs when booked online – although I believe Citi has confirmed with the Doctor of Credit  that phone reservations through the Citi Concierge will still earn loyalty points and allow for other discounts.

Remember, act fast, you only have about one week left to take advantage of the perks before they are gone forever.

Cheers!
