So, I did what I always do, I made “the call”.

Well, actually, I decided to mix things up this year and went through Amex Chat.

Before making any “keep or cancel” decision, I’ve found it wise to always inquire with the card company to see if any retention offers are available.

I contacted American Express through the websites Chat feature. I quickly got a representative, and stuck to the usual script to determine if I should keep the card.

The Chat

The CS representative went through laundry list of card benefits, at which point I mentioned that I understood the card’s benefits, but that my issue as the unused airline incidental credit that was almost impossible to use during the pandemic.

The Offer

At this point, the CS representative made me the following offer:

Offer #1:  80,000 Hilton Honors points if I decided to keep the card.

To Keep Or Cancel?

I actually find great value in this card as its benefits are among the very best any card has to offer.

In fact, the benefits alone usually outweigh the hefty $450 annual fee by a long shot (if you can use them)

By my math, I value Offer #1 [conservatively] at $400, so this was a great offer.
