Here is some positive news during 2020.

American Express is adding valuable new benefits to the Platinum Card.

American Express Adds Valuable New Benefits To The Platinum Card

Due to the travel limitations during the pandemic, Amex has decided to [temporarily] add new benefits to justify the card’s hefty $550 annul fee to offset the now near-impossible-to-use travel benefits of the Platinum Card.

The New Platinum Card Benefits

Amex has added a new $160 credit ($20 per month) for eligible wireless telephone services, and a new $160 credit ($20 per month) for eligible streaming subscriptions.

Yes, American Express is still employing their annoying piecemeal credit strategy of $20 per credit, per month. This means the wireless and streaming credits can only be used in small $20 monthly increments rather than a lump-sum.

You have until December 31, 2020 to use these credits.

American Express Adds Valuable New Benefits To The Platinum Card

As with the additional new benefits Amex has added to their Business Platinum Card, these additional new benefits will go a long way in justifying the cost of keeping the card for most Platinum card holders.

The bottom-line? This is potentially $320 in new value in addition to the current benefits of the card, and there is nothing to stop you from using the card’s original travel benefits if and when travel returns to “normal”.

I applaud Amex for being proactive in delivering value to customers during these uncertain times.
