After a great stay at Element Las Vegas Summerlin, I decided on another “off the strip” stay during the pandemic, this time at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa.

The Marriott Bonvoy Redemption & Nightly Rate

During my stay, the nightly room rate started at $284.

However, the JW Marriott Las Vegas is a Category 5 Marriott property, meaning I was able to book the second night of my stay for 27,500 points a night thanks to PointSavers.

Going back to the first night, the room went for a PointSavers rate of 32,500. Because of this, I decided to use one of my free Marriott award night certificates from my Marriott Bonvoy Business card from American Express.

As a Marriott Platinum Elite member, I also had a Suite Night certificate to use, so I did, and I “applied” for one of the larger suites.

Check-In

As I arrived for check-in, I was quickly forehead-scanned with a thermometer before being green-lit to proceed to the front desk.

I was warmly greeted by an attendant at the front desk of the Palms Tower.

I was immediately recognized for my Marriott loyalty and thanked for choosing to stay at the “JW”.

I was told that my Suite Night request had been approved, and that I had been upgraded to an “Executive Suite”.

The staff member also informed me that my daily Platinum breakfast benefit could be used at the Earl Grey Cafe in the promenade before being handed my room keys and map of the resort.

The Executive Suite (Upgrade)

I wasn’t exactly sure what the room would look like, but I was pleased to find it was indeed a “true” suite upgrade.

The room was far larger than I thought, with a separate bedroom, two bathrooms, a walk-in closet, and an extremely large balcony with a view of Red Rock Canyon.

The Living Area

Now to state the obvious: The Executive Suite definitely had that “rich old man, cigar, and cognac” vibe to it with its gold accents and dark-wood cherry furniture, but actually quite liked it.

The living room itself was huge, with a living area, office desk, wet bar, and its own bathroom.

Room Condition

The room condition was, shall I say, showing some signs of age (the hotel dates back to 1999) but nothing too serious.

The Master Bedroom

The centerpiece of the bedroom was a large, very comfortable, 4-post king bed.

The Master Bathroom (Bathroom 2)

The master bathroom was enormous.

It was well-lit, clean, and came with oversized-sized versions of one of my favorite toiletry brands, Aromatherapy Associates.

These smell great!

The Balcony

Like the rest of the suite, the balcony was huge.

It was large enough for two tables and five steel chairs (and still had plenty of room to spare).

The View From The Room

The room had excellent views of the western mountains and Red Rock Canyon.

Walking Into The Promenade

The Promenade was surrounded by a beautiful water garden (complete with pools and waterfalls).

Breakfast At Earl Grey Cafe

We really enjoyed our daily breakfast(s) at the Earl Grey Cafe.

We went with the Eggs Benny and the Deuces Wild (the Deuces Wild is great).

The Bottom-Line Review: JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa.

What I found was a surprisingly excellent resort. Yes, the JW is “older”; yes, the JW is “off the strip”; yes, the JW is “geared toward locals”. As far as I was concerned, those were all “pluses”. I wouldn’t let any of those things put you off , the JW is a clearly an upscale, luxury resort.

We had a great time, not to mention just a lot of plain ol’ fun during our stay. The service was great, the room upgrade was huge, the Platinum benefits were valuable, and the dining was excellent.

Side-note: The JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa delivers great value for Marriott Bonvoy redemptions on PointSavers, as such, it’s a “sweet spot” in the Bonvoy portfolio.

Final Rating: 8.5 out of 10.
