Review: Holiday Inn Spokane Airport

The drive from the National Bison Range in Montana was long but a beautifully scenic drive. I had a 6:00 am flight the next morning so I needed to find an IHG property close the to airport. With close proximity and free shuttle service starting at 4:30 am, the Holiday Inn Spokane Airport fit the bill.

The Redemption:

This was the final IHG property I’d be staying at on this road trip (others included the Hinton Holiday Inn Express & Suites, the Holiday Inn Canmore, and the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Kalispell) and I was hoping to find a decent redemption.

Luckily, I found another sweet spot in the IHG Rewards Club. I was able to redeem a room $115 room here for 15,000 points (a good deal as I value IHG points at $0.05 cents a piece).

The Check-In:

As you can guess, this was a pretty busy location. Nevertheless, the front desk staff was friendly and professional. They recognized my status, thanked me for my loyalty, offered me a minor upgrade, and handed me my key.

Because this hotel was an airport location, it was semi-isolated from the town and dinner options. But, they did have a mini sports-bar and a restaurant called “Peppers” in the lobby.

The Hotel Room:

The hotel room was very clean and appeared to be new or newly renovated, with a sleek business styling to it.

The Bathroom Area:

The bathroom sink, and…why is that in here?

The Coffee Station – In The Bathroom!?

The Keurig machine is in the bathroom. Does anybody else see an issue with this?

Well, having just read this article about being careful using hotel coffee machines – this did not seem kosher. As a basic rule, I never ingest any food source that’s been stored in a public bathroom. Seems legit, right? So I made a mental note to NOT use this machine in the morning.

Peppers Restaurant:

The restaurant was empty, but only because everybody was in the adjacent sports bar. I was dead tired and just wanted some soup. I saw they also had a Mexican Taco salad on the menu, so that’s what I got. It was fine but notable for its un-spiciness, even the “spicy red salsa” tasted just like tomatoes.

Peppers is really the “only game in town” due to the hotel’s location, but it’s decently good. The server staff was very friendly. Maybe next time I’ll go with a steak at the sports bar though.

The Pool Area (with Hot Tub!):

The Holiday Inn Spokane Airport has a nice pool area with a hot tub jacuzzi (semi-rare for Holiday Inns).

Fun Fact About The Holiday Inn Spokane Airport:

There is a formation of columnar basalt (like that found at Devil’s Postpile) near the airport off ramp right next to the Holiday Inn Spokane Airport.

The Bottom Line On The Holiday Inn Spokane Airport:

This hotel had a great location near the airport with free shuttle service. The hotel was nice and clean, but it did have limited or non-existent food options nearby, so Peppers Grill is likely your only option.

For a fly through traveler, this hotel pretty much has all you need. Just don’t drink the coffee in the room!
