Hinton Holiday Inn Express & Suites: The Redemption

The first IHG Hotel that I redeemed on my Canadian Rockies trip was the Hinton Holiday Inn Express & Suites. I got a pretty sweet deal as this hotel was going for $451 CAD ($365 USD) on my selected dates but I was able to redeem it for 25,000 IHG Rewards Club points.

$451 CAD = $365 USD

25,000 IHG points = $365 USD, not bad!

The Location of Hinton Holiday Inn Express & Suites:

The town of Hinton, Alberta is located on Canada Highway 16 just outside of Jasper National Park (between the town of Jasper and Edmonton).

The town of Hinton is still about 20 minutes from the park entrance to Jasper National Park. Even so, unless you are staying inside of Jasper National Park, it’s about as close as you can get.

The Check-in:

Having driven from Calgary through Banff and Jasper National Parks, I arrived pretty late at the Hinton Holiday Inn Express & Suites (having accidentally stopped at the Hinton Holiday Inn). Never the less, check-in was very nice, the staff was professional and efficient. They recognized my status and told me that I had been given a room upgrade to the top floor.

I did feel a little bad because there were several other travelers desperate to find a room in Hinton, but everything in the town was sold out, including the Hinton Holiday Inn Express.

Pro-tip: Free Beer at Milos Grill and 10% off!:

Ask for this coupon at the Hinton Holiday Inn Express & Suites front desk. Milos Grill is a quirky Greek-themed pizza and beer joint just down the street (the only restaurant within walking distance) from the Hinton Holiday Inn Express & Suites.

The coupon will get you your choice of one (of two) free beer. (I went with the wise choice Rickard’s Red). I’m not sure if it was because it was late and I was starving, but the ‘meatlover’s-style’ pizza was awesome!

The IHG 1,000 Point Offer (good only at participating Canadian properties):

I also got this offer from IHG for 1,000 bonus point for stays at participating Canadian properties through November 1, 2017.

The Bottom Line:

Between the service and location, the newness and cleanliness of the hotel and rooms, and the pizza and beer – I was really pleased with everything at this Hinton Holiday Inn Express & Suites.

The breakfast was an amazing and convenient value and allowed for us to eat really well and take some coffee and snacks to go on our early start into Jasper National Park.

I have nothing but good things to say about the Hinton Holiday Inn Express & Suites and I felt it was a great usage of points (worth $365 USD) especially with the free breakfast for two.

Highly Recommended!

Cheers!
