Dinner At Malpeque
Our first night at Waldorf Astoria Cancun brought us to the wonderful Malpeque (the hotel’s signature restaurant) and it did not disappoint. In fact, it blew us away.

Artisanal bread with locally inspired flavored butter – Excellent

Oysters on the half-shell

Tuna sashimi

I believe this was a Chinese inspired fired oyster dish

Bone-in ribeye

Catch of the day

Real cacao chocolates
Dining: Breakfast At Chaya
Hilton Honors Diamond Status got us free “American Breakfast” at Chaya, but we had to order off the special limited menu. Still, the options were great and the food was delicious!

Chilaquiles

Fresh fruit

Special buttermilk pancakes

They may look dry, but these side sausages were very good
Dinner At Chaya
On our second night we chose Chaya because we wanted to go a little more low-key than Malpeque (and because Jao was closed). The food overall was still very good; we got to try several tapas style dishes and I think the table’s overall favorite dish was (surprisingly) the vegan soup, followed by the pasta.

The Vegan Soup was excellent – who’d have guessed?

THE FHOP BOTTOM-LINE 10 RATINGS: Waldorf Astoria Cancun
The Bottom-Line Review: Positives & Negatives
The Bottom-Line Review: Waldorf Astoria Cancun
This luxurious resort earns a well-deserved 9.5 out of 10 for its outstanding service, breathtaking – though secluded -location, and luxurious amenities. The Waldorf Astoria Cancun is truly a secluded paradise for travelers seeking tranquility and exclusivity. The tiered infinity pools were perhaps our favorite feature as we hung out there most of the day while downing an unholy amount of Palomas (the mezcal version). Somehow, every very moment of our stay felt like a carefully curated experience. Aside from the pool, the our next favorite thing about this resort was its many exquisite culinary offerings; I’m referring to dinner at Malpeque and breakfast at Chaya. Both were excellent. Drinks at Peacock Alley were outstanding as well.
Our experience was elevated further with [an incredible] room upgrade to an oceanfront suite, a gesture that was much appreciated by this Diamond elite. The suite was spacious, luxurious, relaxing and comfortable. We’d end the day and begin the day with a dip in the plunge-pool [jacuzzi] on our balcony overlooking the Caribbean. Service and cleanliness are where this resort truly excels, setting a high standard that rivals some of the best hospitality experiences worldwide. The immaculate upkeep of the property further reflects its commitment to excellence, making guests feel completely at ease throughout their stay.
The only minor negatives I can mention were the beach designated as a no-swimming area, and the resort’s very secluded location (although, this could also be a plus for some travelers) which required leaving the property and at least a 20-minute drive if guests want to do any sightseeing, city dining or shopping.
Nevertheless, we absolutely loved pretty much everything about our stay. We’ve also stayed at Hilton’s Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya, which we thoroughly enjoyed as well, but I have to give Waldorf Astoria Cancun the edge. For travelers looking for a truly luxurious stay in the Mexican Riviera, Waldorf Astoria Cancun is tough to beat.
