On a recent trip to visit some good friends in Seattle, WA (a truly great town), we had the opportunity to stay at the Thompson Seattle.

Review: Thompson Seattle (WA)

Here is our review of the Thompson Seattle.

Location & Parking

The Thompson Seattle is located in a prime location in the Downtown area near Pike’s Place and the Waterfront.

The only parking option was valet parking (at $55.24 per night) which was comped for Hyatt Globalist members.

World Of Hyatt Redemption

The nightly rate during our stay was $285.02 USD (or $340.48 with all taxes and fees included).

The Thompson Seattle was a World of Hyatt Category 5 property bookable for 20,000 points.

However, that was a poor redemption value for Hyatt points at 1 CPP, so we opted to pay the cash rate with the Amex Hyatt offer of 20% off.

Lobby

As expected, the Thompson Seattle featured a hip decor that one can only call modern Pacific Northwest coffeehouse chic.

Front Desk & Check-In

We were greeted at the front desk and quickly checked-in. We were thanked for our Hyatt loyalty and informed we’d been given an “upgrade” to a higher floor.

We received our room key and a welcome package that consisted of a personal handwritten letter from the general manager of the Thompson Seattle.

Bedroom

When we arrived at our room, we noticed it was a bit darker than what we were expecting (thanks to the lighting and dark furniture), although it was tastefully decorated and had some modern touches that made for a comfortable stay.

The room’s artwork was interesting, in fact, I’m sure I’ve seen some of these very pieces at the Park MGM (in Las Vegas).

Room Amenities

The Thompson’s mini-refrigerator was stocked to the brim with various alcoholic beverages and there was a small coffee and tea station that featured an electric kettle.

The Thompson also had its own line of branded water.

Bathroom

The Thompson Seattle’s bathroom was modernly styled and modestly lit and featured Bowmakers by D.S. & Durga as the in-house toiletries of the hotel (a brand I had never heard of before).

I thought these smelled great – definitely on the smokey/masculine side of things, but great nevertheless. Yes, I took them home.

View From The Room

Waking up in the morning we were found an amazing view of the Seattle Waterfront including a direct peer into the world-famous Pike’s Place Market.

Our view was amazing both day and night.

Breakfast

As a Hyatt Globalist, we opted for the complimentary breakfast at the in-house cafe, “Conversation”.

Breakfast Menu At Conversation

We went with the Classic Benedict (which included heaping portions of smoked ham) as well as the Smoked Ham Melt (another substantial creation featuring bacon, arugula, cheddar, sourdough, and tons of smoked ham).

Both were excellent choices, as was the coffee, which of course was excellent being that we were in Seattle.

FHOP Tip: What’s Nearby

The Thompson Seattle was walking distance to some of Seattle’s best-known landmarks including the Pike’s Place Market, the very first Starbucks, the Seattle Great Wheel, the Seattle Space Needle, and the Seattle Waterfront.

Diagonally across the street from the Thompson Seattle was “Bacco Cafe”, another popular spot that had patrons wrapped around the building lined up to get inside.

The Bottom-Line Review: Thompson Seattle (WA)

The Thompson Seattle is a popular hotel for many reasons. It has an excellent location, it’s thoughtfully designed and decorated, it boasts a couple of great spots for dining and drinks including The Nest Rooftop Bar and Conversation, and has an overall modern coolness to it that reflects the best of contemporary downtown Seattle.

The only negative to our stay was our breakfast experience at Conversation as we waited over an an hour to get our breakfast and coffee. In fairness, every time I turned around I saw the kitchen staff hustling back and forth and the service was great when we got it. I’m not quite sure what the issue was, but waiting an hour for coffee is excessive.

Even still, I would easily recommend the Thompson Seattle for singles looking to party downtown, for couples looking for a romantic getaway, and for tourists interested in checking out the best of downtown Seattle.

Overall Rating: 8.25 out of 10
