During my stay at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla At Aventine in San Diego, I chose to cash in one of my Club Access Award passes for access to the Regency Club.

But was that a good decision?

Hyatt elites at the Explorist level or above have access to the Regency Club (Explorist members must use a Club Access Award pass).

Guests can also access the Regency Club if they book a “Regency Club Room” through the hotel.

About The Regency Club

I’m a fan of Regency Clubs worldwide, as I use them primarily for the complimentary breakfast and hors d’oeuvres hours.

At the Hyatt Regency La Jolla At Aventine, the Regency Club’s events and hours were posted on the back of the room key sleeve (and on the door of the Club itself).

The Seating Area

As Regency Clubs go, this particular Regency Club was on the “smaller side”.

There were definitely times where I saw patrons jockeying for free spots at a rare table or chair.

The lack of available table space presented a real challenge to families with children and groups of 2 or more.

The Food Spread

The food spread was decent for both the complimentary breakfast and hors d’oeuvres hours.

Although the space was small, the service staff was quick to restock popular items and items running low.

And yes, the food during both hours was sufficient enough to qualify as full-fledged meals.

Alcoholic Beverages

The Regency Club also had alcoholic beverages, but they had to be ordered off a menu – for a price.

(I always forget that Regency Clubs in the U.S. – as opposed to Clubs in Asia, Africa, or Europe – charge for alcoholic beverages).

The Bottom-Review: Regency Club, Hyatt Regency La Jolla At Aventine (San Diego, CA)

Overall, I felt this Regency Club was “just OK”.

Indeed, it had high quality food and snacks, as well as all the “basic lounge items” like coffee, tea, and cookies (etc.), but the lack of physical space was a real issue (as was the fact alcohol must be purchased).

Because of that, I wouldn’t recommend this particular Regency Club for groups of more than 2 people or families with children.

However, if you are traveling solo on business or a couple out on a date, the Regency Club is probably a good choice (as it was for me).

Cheers!
