If you have a Chase World of Hyatt credit card, then you already know you get a free night annually just for being a card member.

What you may not know is that the card’s free annual night can be redeemed for maximum value (15,000 points) at only three Category 4 hotels in Las Vegas: MGM Grand, Park MGM Las Vegas, and New York-New York Hotel & Casino.

I’ve already reviewed the other two Category 4 properties (see the links above), let’s see how New York-New York stacks-up.

About New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel & Casino

“Get a slice of our bold New York attitude as you experience our piece of Las Vegas magic. Whether you’re here for sightseeing or to have a great time, New York-New York is a fantastic place to be your real self — no apologies needed.” – Hyatt.com

The World Of Hyatt Redemption

New York-New York is a perfect example of how easy it is to get outsized value from the Chase World of Hyatt credit card.

On the night I stayed there, a Park Avenue King Room was going for $301.59. By cashing in my free night award (worth 15,000 points) I was able to get 2.01 CPP (a “good” Hyatt redemption).

Put another way, I was able to wring $206.59 in value out of the Chase World of Hyatt credit card ($301.59 rate – $95 annual fee).

The Check-In

The check-in was standard and uneventful.

Although the front-desk staff was semi-friendly, I was not recognized for my World of Hyatt status and I was not given an upgrade.

The Park Avenue King Room

The room itself was nice, if not outdated.

It definitely felt like a room straight-outta the 90’s, right down to the carpeting, wallpaper and telephone.

The room appeared clean, yet a closer inspection revealed signs of the wear and tear of age (see the carpet, box spring, and chair cushions).

Room Amenities

The Bathroom

Like the room, the bathroom suffered from the same dated decor and signs of age.

The MGM uses the KUER brand of toiletries (which is not among my favorite brands at M Life hotels).

The Bottom-Line Review: New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel & Casino (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Truth be told, I’ve stayed at New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel & Casino many, many times in my youth.

I’ve had great times, I’ve had terrible times, and I’ve plenty of times at New York-New York that I can’t even remember.

I remember when this place was brand-new in 1997, it seemed like New York-New York was surely going to be the future of Las Vegas. Now it just seems like it’s stuck in the past.

As far as those Chase World of Hyatt credit card free nights go (for Category 4 redemptions), my ranking is this: #1 Park MGM, #2 MGM Grand, and #3 New York-New York.

Final Rating: 6/10 – A great location and some decent bars and restaurants don’t outweigh the lackluster service and dated rooms and casino. For a free night, this is not a bad redemption. For cash, I’d say ffuggedaboutit!
