Having just flown in from Yogykarta, I was ready to hit the ground running as it was my first time in Bali, Indonesia.

I was lucky enough to check out a couple of resorts while I was out there.

Here’s my review of the first hotel I stayed at, the Hyatt Regency Bali.

About The Hyatt Regency Bali

The Bali Hyatt (its original name) was a once legendary resort that overtime had become in need of a major refresh.

During its 5 year closure, the hotel underwent a major remodeling and reemerged reborn as the Hyatt Regency Bali.

Here is the official description from Hyatt.com.

Location And Getting There

The Hyatt Regency Bali is located on the east side of the island in the in the popular tourist enclave known as Sanur.

From Ngurah Rai International Airport, it takes about 30 minutes to get to the Hyatt Regency Bali by taxi service.

The World Of Hyatt Redemption

At the time of booking, the Hyatt Regency Bali was considered by many to be one of the very best World of Hyatt point redemptions in the entire Hyatt portfolio.

Luckily for me, I snuck-in and booked my stay at the 5,000-point Category 1 level (it has since been adjusted upward to a Category 2 property at 8,000 points). With that, I got a great CPP redemption of 3 (which is excellent!).

The Check-In

I was warmly greeted by a service representative who smiled and immediately opened up her laptop to begin the check-in process. While she worked, other staff members assisted by running over the welcome drinks, welcome letters, and room keys.

I was thanked for my loyalty and notified that I was eligible to enjoy the Regency Club.

She handed me a map of the property, pointed out the location of the dining options and Regency Club, before giving me instructions on how to find my room and pointing me in the right direction.

The Walk To The Room

Getting to my room required a walk through a lush tropical garden.

I have arrived!

The Regency Suite With 1 King Bed

The room was large and elegantly backlit, with beautiful woodwork that successfully evoked the Balinese spirit of the island.

The bed and beddings were clean and very comfortable, and the room was cooled at the exact perfect temperature.

I was impressed.

Room Amenities

The room had all the standard amenities and came with 4 [glass] bottles of complimentary water.

Daybed Room

There was a small daybed room before the balcony. It was possible to separate this room by the sliding bedroom doors.

The Master Bathroom

Like the bedroom, the master bathroom was beautifully appointed with woodwork galore and the added touch of brushed bronzed metal.

The only negative was the bathroom didn’t have a toilet; that was found in the water closet by the entrance to the room.

Omang Omang

After check-in, we headed over to Omang Omang for lunch.

We tried a crispy pork belly dish and a spicy fish dish, both were prepared Indonesian-style and both were delicious.

The Regency Club

After lunch, we headed over to the Regency Club for some afternoon iced coffee and snacks.

The Regency Club would become one of my favorite hangout at the Hyatt Regency Bali.

The Pool

Another of my favorite spots was, of course, the pool.

The pool was only about three feet deep (over the entire pool), but it did have an impressive little grotto and waterfall.

Drinks On The Beach

The beach at the Hyatt Regency Bali was beautiful. The sand was fine and the ocean breeze was perfect.

The one negative was that this beach (Sanur) had succumbed to an infestation red ocean seaweed. It’s some nasty stuff.

Although swimming was allowed here, the seaweed was a major deterrent to hotel guests (myself included).

I preferred to stick to the beach and swim in Long Island Iced Teas

The Bottom-Line Review: Hyatt Regency Bali (Bali, Indonesia)

The Hyatt Regency Bali was an overall great stay. I was a little disappointed I wasn’t upgraded to a larger room, but really that’s just the elitist in me splitting hairs. The hotel and property were gorgeous, calming, and relaxing.

It wasn’t the most luxurious place I’ve ever stayed, nor was it the most beautiful, but it really hit the sweet spot between upscale and affordable.

For 5,000 World of Hyatt points (or even 8,000), the Hyatt Regency is an absolute steal. Even if one were to pay in cash, they really couldn’t go wrong.

Final Rating: 7.5 out of 10. Highly Recommended!

Cheers!
