On a recent weekend road-trip to San Diego to visit the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, we needed a quick place to stay for the night that wouldn’t eat a ton of our World of Hyatt points.

We found just the spot, the Hyatt House San Diego/Carlsbad.

But was it any good?

Review: Hyatt House San Diego/Carlsbad (San Diego, CA)

Editor’s Note: This article is part of my ongoing series on the state of California and its sister-series, San Diego.

About The Hyatt House San Diego/Carlsbad

Editor’s Note: the Hyatt House San Diego/Carlsbad is no longer affiliated with Hyatt or World of Hyatt as of 2020. It has been rebranded as Carlsbad Suites.

The World Of Hyatt Redemption

The Hyatt House is a Category 3 Hyatt property, redeemable for 12,000 points.

On the night I stayed there, the price of a One Bedroom King Suite went for $271.07 USD.

This meant my World of Hyatt Redemption was 2.26 CPP (pretty good!).

The Hallway

The hallway, like much of the hotel, leaned heavily into the Spanish decor aesthetic (which was fitting for San Diego).

The One Bedroom King Suite

A great thing about the Hyatt House brand is its all-suite hotels, and the suite we got was typical for the brand.

For a business-friendly room, the one-bedroom suite was simple, clean, bright, open and comfortable.

The only weird thing was that the one bathroom in the suite was in the master bathroom, meaning that all guests had to enter the bedroom to use the bathroom (even at night).

The Living Area

The Kitchenette

Another great thing about Hyatt House properties are the kitchenettes.

This room was no exception. The kitchenette was small (but mighty), and had everything needed for an overnight or extended stay.

The Bathroom

The bathroom was heavily outfitted in Spanish-style decor as well.

The Complimentary Breakfast

All Hyatt House hotels serve complimentary breakfast to World of Hyatt members.

This location served the standard Hyatt House breakfast fare, which was limited but delicious.

The Bottom-Line Review: Hyatt House San Diego/Carlsbad (San Diego, CA)

I was pleased with this Hyatt House stay.

This just-off-the-freeway location in Carlsbad was perfect for access to East San Diego (for the San Diego Zoo Safari Park) – and San Diego for that matter – as well as in the right direction for people coming down from Los Angeles.

I’d say this was a standard Hyatt House experience; so if you like all-suite business-friendly hotels with complimentary breakfast, the Hyatt House San Diego/Carlsbad is for you.

Final Review: 7/10 – A clean and convenient hotel with spacious rooms that’s a great value at 12,000 points.
