Review: Dinner On The Beach At Jimbaran Bay (Bali, Indonesia)

A common theme among tourists I spoke with in Bali, was the ever-present recommendation of “sunset dinner on the beach in Jimbaran”.

Being a man who loves both beaches and sunsets, I figured it was an experience I would regret if I missed it.

I had a taxi scoop me from my hotel (Conrad Bali), and the only instruction I gave him was “dinner at Jimbaran”.

“Ahh, OK, OK,” was all he said, and we were off.

He dropped me on a strip along the beach with a bunch of restaurants, all were different – but all were pretty much the same.

It was still early out, so I went for a stroll on Jimbaran Beach to snap some photos while I waited for a friend.

Kampoeng Seafood

I browsed a couple of restaurants with tables set up on the beach before settling on Kampoeng Seafood (due to the fact it seemed to be the most crowded and still had one table left with an unobstructed view).

We decided on trying a little bit of everything, so we went with the largest dinner set for two people they had.

We also ordered some beers to get the party started while we waited for the oceanic feast to arrive.

The Bottom-Line Review: Dinner On The Beach At Jimbaran Bay (Bali, Indonesia)

While picturesque, Jimbaran is not the cleanest beach on the island. But, facing westward, it may have the best sunset view.

Kampoeng Seafood, as many reviewers have stated, is somewhat of a tourist trap. The food is not the best, nor is the service, and it’s way overpriced for the overcooked and bland seafood you get (did I mention the 21% service charge [in Asia???]).

But Kampoeng Seafood is not alone. All the restaurants on the beach in this part of Jimbaran are nearly identical (just with a different name). I knew this going in, so the experience was exactly like I figured it would be.

At least I got some cool pictures!

Final Review: Not Recommended – Come for the sunset, leave for a proper delicious seafood dinner somewhere else in Kuta.
