Every frequent flyer knows – or should know – the important role a quality Bloody Mary plays as a part of a complete breakfast.

I have no problem sampling free alcoholic drinks and reporting back on my findings – even if I that means drinking them at 9:00 am. That’s just the kinda guy I am.

Review: Bloody Mary(s) At The American Express Centurion Lounge, Denver International Airport

This brings me to the Spicy Bloody Mary I recently tried at the American Express Centurion Lounge in Denver International Airport (DEN).

But was it any good?

Centurion Lounge Location

The Centurion Lounge is located in post-security at Concourse C inside of DEN Airport.

The Lounge is located upstairs, just past Gate C46 on the mezzanine level. Take the escalator up to the entrance of the lounge.

The Centurion Lounge Bar

I quickly found my way to the bar (across the lounge, opposite the check-in area), where I promptly ordered a Woodford Reserve Rye with a splash of coke.

To my surprise, the barkeep informed me that hard alcohol isn’t served until 10:30 am. It was around 9:00.

“But – we do serve mimosas, screwdrivers, and Bloody Marys,” he added. Those words instantly brought a smile to my face and I ordered a “Spicy Bloody”.

The Bloody Mary (Spicy)

At first, I was concerned the Bloody Mary would be some kind of pre-made monstrosity poured from a crusty, gallon-sized plastic jug.

I was relieved to see that wasn’t the case as I watched the bartender whip out a bottle of Tito’s Handmade Vodka and a bottle of Zing Zang Bloody Mary mix and go to work.

I do love me some Tito’s, and I’ve used Zing Zang for many drinks myself in the past.

He measured a standard shot, poured and mixed, and capped off the libation with a lime and an olive and handed me the glass.

The Bottom-Line Review: Bloody Mary(s) At The American Express Centurion Lounge, Denver International Airport

The good news was that the drink was fresh and cold. The bad news was that it was a little pepper-heavy and somehow a bit bland. I’ll blame the mix, not the bartender.

Don’t get me wrong, it was definitely “good enough”, but for my taste I would’ve liked to have had a pinch of salt, some more Worcestershire sauce, and a couple of healthy splashes of Tabasco. Oh, and maybe a stick of beef jerky or a cocktail shrimp.

Regardless, I happily enjoyed two of them.
